H/T to Patriot Art for this hilarious portrayal of the Liberal Blogger.

Ohfercryinoutloud…
This week’s “Oh fer cryin’ out loud!” award goes to James at The Virginia Progressive for posting this from Webb Campaign Manager Jessica Vanden Berg. The headline reads This is what seperates Jim Webb and George Allen…
First James, it’s spelled separate. But nevermind that.
God bless Jimmy Webb for his service to our country. And may God bless and keep him as he ships off to Iraq.
I certainly understand and applaud his father’s decision to want to spend time with him before he goes.
But the logic behind the assertion that Jim Webb is a better candidate for Senate because he has a 24-year-old son, and George Allen’s oldest child is an 18-year-old daughter escapes me.
But the absurdity does not.

Allen’s Honorable Decision
Statement from Senator Allen on His Decision to Regretfully Decline the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund Award
Senator says he must put the best interests of students above politics
August 31, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC – On August 3rd U.S. Senator George Allen (R-VA) was honored to receive word that the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund had decided to honor him, along with four others, with their 2006 Community Leadership Award recognizing his leadership on behalf of America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Today Senator Allen was also informed that some individuals and groups have objected to this honor and have threatened to withhold donations from the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund and potentially damage the future of the students who benefit from the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund. Because of this disturbing news Senator Allen has issued the following statement:
“While I am very honored to have been chosen to receive this prestigious award it has come to my attention that there are some during this election year who plan to exploit my selection and do harm to the fundraising efforts of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund. I believe in this program and in the importance of our nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities to educate the next generation of American entrepreneurs, teachers, engineers, chemists, technicians and leaders. I regret that there are those who would put their personal or political dislike of me ahead of the needs of deserving students and I do not want to be the cause of any controversy which could in any way harm the efforts to help these young people. For that reason I have decided to decline the award with a true thank you to those who chose to honor me and with the promise that I will continue to be a leader for America’s HBCUs. I hope this action will demonstrate my sincere commitment to our common goal of making America a land of opportunity for all of her citizens regardless of their race, ethnicity or gender.â€
An honorable decision by the Senator brought about from the incessant childhood antics of the “All Hate, All the Time†wing of the liberal Democrat Party.
Shaun Kenney has a good take on the extortion campaign by the nutroots at Raising Kaine.Kenney says it well: Now folks, I’m getting awful tired of the “Republicans = Racists” meme the lunatic fringe of the Democratic Party continues to spew out unchecked.
Over at Virginia Virtucon, Riley says “Jim Webb should fire Lowell Feld,†for making this statement:
“Is anybody out there still seriously arguing that George Allen isn’t an outright racist?â€
Count me as another one who KNOWS George Allen, probably for more years than Lowell has been out of training pants. Then again maybe not. I know George Allen is not a racist in spite of Lying Lowell’s rants.
But I’m not so sure I agree with Riley. Let Lowell keep whining. Let him keep lying. Let him keep distorting the issues.
The sooner the voters of Virginia recognize that all Webb has is a campaign of hate, lies and deceit, well the better.
Riley is right that Jim Webb is an honorable man. But you’re known by the company you keep.
Don Wildmon Doesn’t Speak for MY Family
What is it with conservative Christians? I mean, I AM one, but sometimes my brothers and sisters can be more than a bit embarrassing. Consider this Petition from the American Family Association.
CBS To Air Profanity-Laden Program
The Program? The documentary Gedeon and Jules Naudet, brothers who were with FDNY personnel on 9/11. They captured rare footage of the first plane hitting the World Trade Center.
The documentary aired once in March 2002. Yes, there were protests then.
I remember watching it. I didn’t come away with any visible scars because of the adult language. But I remember the horror of the sound of bodies hitting the ground.
As a rule, I’d agree that profanity doesn’t belong on Prime Time Network TV. And, as a rule, I’m certainly no advocate for CBS.
But this is different.
Sure there’s some foul language. But face it. What could be more obscene than the attacks on this country on September 11, 2001?
We’re coming up on the fifth anniversary of that horrible day. I remember how I felt. And while they’re not in my day-to-day vocabulary, I’m pretty sure I used some adult words of my own.
If AFA doesn’t want children to see this, tell parents to change the channel.
Personally, I think the viewing should be mandatory.
And then there’s this…
AFA Catches Sam’s Taking ‘Christ’ Out of Christmas Early
(AgapePress) — It appears the battle against what some call the politically correct title for Christmas has already begun. A pro-family group is highlighting ad on page 69 in the Sam’s Club in-house magazine, that promotes “holiday” cards, ribbons and gift bags, despite all the products obviously being designed for Christmas.
Ohfercryinoutloud…
Once and for all can we just get over this?
I get really weary with all of these “Assault on Christianity†stories.
News Flash: Sam’s Club is in business to make money. The Christians don’t have all the money.
In a world where Christians are literally dying for their faith, a world where reporters are forced at gunpoint to convert to Islam, it’s really a bit much for me to feel persecuted because the ACLU doesn’t like my plastic Baby Jesus “holiday†lawn ornament.
Born Frothing
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! I don’t think this guy liked Jim’s book.
Born Frothing: a review essay of James Webb’s Born Fighting: How the Scots-Irish Shaped America
Some delightful quotes from the review:
Race and racism lie just below the surface of this book, which should sound alarm bells for anyone sensitive either to the problems of race relations in America, or to the undermining of the myths of race by solid scholarship since World War II. Words like “blood” and “bloodline” appear so often one wonders if one is reading a passage from Mein Kampf: “That is the story of my people, not for a generation or for ten generations, but for forever” (p. 4), or “Nonconformity as well as a mistrust of central power was now in their blood” (p. 129).Â
The evil-doers in Webb’s portrayal of Scottish history are not only the English (who, naturally, become “Yankees” later on), but the “hybrid-royal blood caste.” “Having themselves been altered in their blood and traditions by intermarriage with Normans and English royalty, the high families of Scotland now embraced further schemes” (p. 43). The Scotch-Irish left for America, he explains, because “they no longer belonged in Ireland’s increasingly toxic ethnic mix.” If impure blood causes all social ills, does that mean that we need a little ethnic cleansing to put society on the right track again in the present? Â
But wait, there’s more!
Webb comes across as an apologist for the legacy of racism in the South. Just as the Scotch-Irish are cleared of any wrong-doing against the native Irish (”they brought with them a greater antipathy toward the English hierarchy than they ever could have felt toward the ordinary Irish,” p. 109), they are never themselves to blame for the problems of slavery and racism in the South. Rudy: He’s a Great Senator
Giuliani Enthusiastically Endorses Allen for Reelection
“I support Senator Allen for reelection because he’s a great Senator,†Mayor Giuliani said. “[He] understands what’s at stake in the war against terrorism, the danger we’re in, the multi-faceted effort that is necessary to reduce the risk of terrorism. We can’t go back to the way we were before September 11th, which is to largely be on defense against terrorism; Senator Allen is one of the people who understands that.â€
Maybe it’s just NBC cameras that “add” the lbs.?

The left photo is the official first-pic-of-Katie released by CBS at this year’s upfront. (TVNewser posted it in May.) The right photo is an edited version of the same photo, from the September issue of Watch magazine, which is owned by CBS.
Webb of Deceit
Kudos to Grievous Dog for this masterpiece:

More Quotable Jim Webb
Webb has welcomed Bill Clinton to his side. But once he said this:I cannot conjure up an ounce of respect for Bill Clinton when it comes to the military. Every time I see him salute a Marine, it infuriates me. I don’t think Bill Clinton cares one iota about what happens in a military unit.
The American Enterprise
March/April 1997
Apparently like another candidate we know, he was against Clinton before he was for him.
Of course Webb was also for Chuck Robb before he was against him. He was also for George Allen before he was against him.
The man changes his opinions more often than I change my socks…
I bet he wishes he could change this Janaury 2006 quote:
Politicians and judges over the past forty years have created the mythology that white America is a monolith whose history is based on social and economic privilege, while anyone who is not white is by definition disadvantaged. No one knows this better than William Perry Pendley and a few have done more to put an end to this outrage.

About that picture…
Riley over at Virginia Virtucon tells us Lowell Drinks Up “The Nation’s” Grape Flavor-Aid
I don’t know, maybe nobody wants their picture taken with Jim Webb. But the “horrible photo” in questoin was a photo-op at CPAC. Nothing more.
Riley gives this update:
When the Southern Poverty Law Center uncovered the racist views of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC) in 1998 (2 years AFTER the Allen photograph was taken), CPAC labeled CCC a racist organization and barred them from all events. The SPLC has tracked elected officials who have met with CCC following this designation and George Allen is NOT among them.
What we’re seeing folks is an all out Democrat/Main Stream Media assault on George Allen by folks who can’t answer the question posed by The Richmond War Room Why should I vote FOR Webb?
Face it, has anyone seen anything positive, anything substantive from the “All Macaca - All the Time - All We Got” crowd? We’ve heard macaca is bad, Bush is bad, Katrina was bad, Iraq is bad, Allen is bad.
Mean spirited. Nasty. Hate-filled. (yeah, I can quote ‘em).
And it’s not even Labor Day.
The Anti Jim Webb
Affirmative action, which originally sought to repair the state-induced damage to blacks from slavery and its aftermath, has within one generation brought about a permeating state-sponsored racism that is as odious as the Jim Crow laws it sought to countermand. A Soviet-style bureaucracy of political commissars now monitors every level of our society to ensure that racial and gender “diversity” matches pre-ordained models, using the awesome powers of government to make certain that white males are not “overrepresented” in education, employment or government contracts.

Anti War?
The rhetoric of the antiwar Left during these debates was filled with condemnation of America’s war-torn allies, and promises of a better life for them under the Communism that was sure to follow. Then-Congressman Christopher Dodd typified the hopeless naiveté of his peers when he intoned that “calling the Lon Nol regime an ally is to debase the word…. The greatest gift our country can give to the Cambodian people is peace, not guns. And the best way to accomplish that goal is by ending military aid now.” Tom Downey, having become a foreign policy expert in the two months since being freed from his mother’s apron strings, pooh-poohed the coming Cambodian holocaust that would kill more than one-third of the country’s population, saying, “The administration has warned that if we leave there will be a bloodbath. But to warn of a new bloodbath is no justification for extending the current bloodbath.”

We made errors, although nowhere on the scale alleged by those who have a stake in disparaging our effort. Fighting a well-trained enemy who seeks cover in highly contested populated areas where civilians often assist the other side is the most difficult form of warfare. The most important distinction is that the deliberate killing of innocent civilians was a crime in the U.S. military. We held ourselves accountable for My Lai. And yet we are still waiting for the communists to take responsibility for the thousands of civilians deliberately killed by their political cadre as a matter of policy. A good place for them to start holding their own forces accountable would be Hue, where during the 1968 Tet Offensive more than 2,000 locals were systematically executed during the brief communist takeover of the city.

Anti Terrorist?
If you think we have problems in Israel, try putting a Judeo-Christian military system in the cradle of Muslim culture. And when you think about a military of 1.4 million people, with other responsibilities around the world, that is not a winnable situation. I tried to say ten years ago, over and over again, that we must be involved only to the extent that it directly involves our national interests. These arguments have been going on for 3,000 years. And when they do relate to our national interests, as this international terrorist movement does, we must act with a great deal of specific lethality. We must go after the people who are doing this and eliminate them.

Anti Abolitionist?
The Confederate Memorial has had a special place in my life for many years. During the bitter turbulence of the early and mid1970’s I used to come here quite often. I had recently left the Marine Corps and was struggling to come to grips with my service in Vietnam, and with the misperceptions that seemed rampant about the people with whom I had served and what, exactly we had attempted to accomplish. And there were many, many times that I found myself drawn to this deeply inspiring memorial, to contemplate the sacrifices of others, several of whom were my ancestors, whose enormous suffering and collective gallantry are to this day still misunderstood by most Americans.
Remarks of James Webb at the Confederate Memorial

Anti Women
That complaint grew louder in 1979, when Washingtonian magazine published an article, “Women Can’t Fight,” by academy graduate and Marine war hero James Webb. He wrote that the women’s presence poisoned the academy’s mission and that the academy’s massive dormitory was “a horny woman’s dream.” Â

Anti SemiticÂ
In the 2006 Virginia Democratic Primary Webb distributed a flier in which he called Jewish opponent Harris Miller the “Anti-Christ of Outsourcing.†The flier, drawn in comic-book cartoon style, depicts Miller with a grotesquely hooked nose and cash overflowing from his suit pockets as he orders an underling to find ways to export U.S. jobs overseas.  Â

Jim Webb Has Much To Learn
Webb’s Blog has this “FACT†today Allen Plays the “Name Game†with FEMAAmong other things, the “FACT†tells us Unfortunately, George Allen rubberstamped President Bush’s dismantling of the system—FEMA lost its cabinet-level status when it was crammed into the Department of Homeland of Security whose focus is fighting terrorism.
See H.R. 5005: Homeland Security Act of 2002. For those of you from the Webb campaign, this is the legislation that transferred FEMA to the Department of Homeland Security.
To do so, yes George Allen voted with the President.
But so did:
Senator Joe Biden, D-DE
Senator Barbara Boxer, D-CA
Senator Maria Cantwell, D-WA
Senator Max Cleland, D-GA
Senator Hillary Clinton, D-NY
Senator Tom Daschle, D-SD
Senator Christopher Dodd, D-CT
Senator Richard Durbin, D-IL
Senator John Edwards, D-NC
Senator Tom Harkin, D-IA
Senator Barbara Mikulski, D-MD
Senator Patty Murray, D-WA
Among others.
In fact 90 of 100 U.S. Senators voted with the President on this measure.
But the Webbsters go on…
Even after the Katrina tragedy, George Allen voted against legislation that would have restored FEMA’s status as an independently accountable agency. Instead George Allen voted for legislation renaming FEMA the “U.S. Emergency Management Authority.â€
Yes and in that vote, Senator Allen voted with:
Senator Evan Baugh, D-IN
Senator Joe Biden, D-DE
Senator…Byrd, D-WV
Senator Maria Cantwell, D-WA
Senator Tom Harkin, D-IA
Senator Joe Lieberman, D-CT
Senator Patty Murray, D-WA
Among others. The vote failed 32-66.
Really, when you think about it, this is sad. The Webbsters are trying to capitalize on the “anniversary†of Katrina. But the fact is, they simply don’t understand the issues. And they don’t understand how the Senate works.
Jim Webb doesn’t know the Senate business. And Jim Webb has no business in the Senate.

If so, they need look no further than the “fauxtography†scandals of the last couple of weeks. Conservative bloggers have been hard at work sniffing out suspected fakery and staging in the photos sent back on the newswires from the Israel/Hezbollah conflict, and the investigation got pretty smelly.

The Poll
Okay, let’s get this straight. Yes, there’s a disturbing trend in the polls for the U.S. Senate seat from Virginia. Yes, there’s cause for Allen and the Republicans to be concerned. After all, for two weeks now, we’ve seen the onslaught of their “We don’t have any real issues so let’s make some up,†campaign. You’ve seen the stories. “George is a racist†and this weekend we even had Webb’s paid hack on TV saying “George is a bully.â€
“A lie told often enough becomes truth†Vladimir Lenin.
It would be nice if we were campaigning against grownups. But since we’re not, let’s look at their latest hysteria.
The Wall Street Journal released a Battleground States Poll from Zogby International Online that said Webb now has a 1.3 % lead over Allen.
Let’s look at some facts:
The poll was conducted August 15-21, over roughly the same time frame, the more credible SurveyUSA showed Allen leading 48-45. Like wise, Rasmussen Reports just days earlier showed Allen leading 47-42.
While we’re at it, let’s look to the credibility of Zogby’s polls.
On Election Day in 2004, Zogby predicted Votes that Kerry would win 311 electoral votes. For much of that afternoon, he also rated the state of Virginia as too close to call. Not only did President Bush end up winning Virginia by 9 percentage points over Kerry, he won 286 electoral votes, over 3.3 million popular vote more than Kerry and, of course, re-election…Sabato also ridiculed the assertion by Zogby International that exit polls were “uncharacteristically inaccurate” in 2004. “They have been characteristically inaccurate in 2000, 2002, 2004 — wrong three times in a row and highly inaccurate,” Sabato said.
Let’s also consider that Zogby has a noted left wing bias. See:
Zogby’s Bogus Poll on U.S. Military in Iraq
Keep in mind that the men and women in uniform are limited by law from making political statements. If troops are given a chance to express themselves anonymously and fairly, that’s great. They are probably the best barometer of how the mission is going, and how it can be improved. But this Zogby poll isn’t a barometer. It is (a) biased, (b) dishonest, or (c) all of the above.
More on the Bias of Pollster John Zogby
Best known as an interpreter of the political scene, Zogby had a brief stint as an aspiring politician himself in 1981, when he ran unsuccessfully for the Mayoralty of Utica. He describes himself as a liberal Democrat. Since May 2005 he’s been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post.
The Shrill Shill Screel - Zogby Sells Out
Zogby is clearly a Kerry fan. Speaking about the primaries and the national mood, Zogby wrote of Kerry: “His timing caused him to come on strong at the perfect time.â€
Buying bridges and believing polls
Unlike Gallup, Zogby controls his daily sample to keep the breakdown of Democrats and Republicans constant. The problem is he builds in a 2-point to 3-point advantage for Democrats.
Zogby’s Fiery Fiction
But there’s certainly cause to ask given that Zogby didn’t disclose when the poll results were released that he had pocketed roughly $90,000 serving as an expert witness for people suing Wal-Mart, and also since WakeUpWalMart.com refused to reveal what all was asked in the poll.
Don’t get me wrong, in spite of Zogby’s bias, we’re definitely in a horse race here. And it’s a fact that the incident at Breaks Interstate Park didn’t help. Having tasted blood, the Democrats have gone into a feeding frenzy. They know they can’t win on the issues, so they drum up the hysteria. And their partners in crime, the Mainstream “Media†are all to willing to help.
Apparently, so is Zogby.

I need more weekend…
I just got back from spending the day at King’s Dominion with a six-year-old. Now, first let’s clarify that the Smythe famiy prefers Busch Gardens. But today involved free passes and a promise.
That said, I’ve also got a friend in critical condition at MCV resulting from serious injuries last week in a bicycle accident. The prognosis is not good.
Combine that with the routine of life in general and there’s just too much rattling around in my brain to say much more tonight.
We’ll be back to snarky tomorrow.
