How Jim Webb and the Democrat party orchestrated a smear campaign against George Allen.
Oh how they’ve hated him for years. Hear the Democrat orchestra, tuning up for a couple of decades. You hear each instrument tuning and fine tuning the phrases “we hate George Allen, we must smear George Allen, we must tell lies about George Allen.â€
And then the conductor steps to the platform, lifts his baton and a cacophony of hate filled “music†begins.
This is the prelude to Jim Webb’s Rhapsody on a theme of Hate in D(emocrat) minor. Having kicked his opponent in the knees with an anti-Semitic flyer in the primary, Jim Webb gains the Democratic nomination in Virginia.Â
Not yet sure if the orchestration they purchased will hum along with their discordant agenda, the liberalist music softly swells with phrases such as “we’ll make him spend his money.â€
Then, the sound of a clashing cymbal. At an obscure campaign event in far Southwest Virginia, Senator Allen attempts to poke a bit of good natured fun at Webb’s campaign stalker. That was no fun you say? Apparently Sidarth didn’t have a problem with it. And in fact no one did until the video returned to Webbquarters where Webb’s minions quickly created a definition on that credible source Wikipedia. That definition didn’t exist until August 17 and even The Washington Post was forced to admit the word was never clearly defined.
Think about the recent uproar caused by the use of “macaca,” a word whose meaning was never really defined. The Washington Post
Knowing all along that he’d done no wrong, meant no foul the Senator apologized.
Not good enough! the leftist voices shrieked in antiphonal response. Not good enough!
Joining the sour strings of Webb’s paid bloggers came the blaringly out of tune brass of the Main Stream Media. “It’s a scandal,†they sang. “He’s doomed,†they proclaimed.
Then an “independent†chorus manufactured yet another lie. Working the Webbites into a frenzy no seen since the Shaker movement died out, the VoteVets.org issue a lie filled television ad that said “Senator Allen voted to withhold body armor.â€Â The ad was soundly refuted.
Lies from VoteVets.org
I took a little time today to dig around the references that were supplied in regards to this VoteVets body armor ad and to other allegations that Senator George Allen is somehow in against the idea of providing adequate equipment to American servicemembers in combat zones. Not surprisingly, what has been promoted by the Democrats is a little less than truthful. It’s time to set the record straight.
Webb’s Dirty Tricksters: body armor
As an exJarhead and Nam vet I can say from first hand experience that you are absolutely right [that the ad is a lie]. … It pains me to think that another exJarhead and Nam vet may be behind this.
Fact Check.org
“A new ad claims Republican Sen. George Allen of Virginia “voted against giving our troops” modern body armor. He did no such thing. The ad cites a vote on an appropriations amendment that had nothing whatever to do with body armor.
The ad also claims troops were sent to Iraq with flak vests “left over from the Vietnam war,” another falsehood. The ad actually shows an improved vest that wasn’t available until the 1980’s.”
Veteran Democratic State Senator endorses Senator Allen and thanks him for his support of Historic Black Colleges and Universities.
Senior African-American Democratic State Senator Endorses Allen
The Webbites fall silent…or do they?
A Webbcampaign of Lies: college funding
If the Webb campaign wants to deceive voters by pointing out that George Allen’s budget saved Virginians money by no longer forcing them to subsidize the education of non-Virginians — if the Webb campaign wants to claim that George Allen’s budget required all schools to meet uniform deadlines and standards, they may do so. But to claim that George Allen “cut funding for historically black colleges when he was Governor†is a gross misrepresentation of the truth.
With written documentation of Webb’s sexist attitude hardly rating an honorable mention in the “news,” Webb attacks Senator Allen on women’s issues.
The Gentleman and the Un-GentlemanlyÂ
….accusing George Allen of saying “we shouldn’t treat women the same as men at the military academiesâ€. Once again, the Webb campaign misrepresents the truth and deceives Virginia voters.
Not content with simply attacking the Senator (or heaven forbid, actually talking about issues), the Webbites attack the Senator’s children:
From Raising Kaine
None of his family is from Virginia or the south but he adopted the darkest side of our southern culture and named his son “Forrest” after one of the founders of the Klu Klux Klan - Nathan Bedford Forrest. George Allen is a sociopathic bully who abused his siblings and friends and dreamed of becoming a dentist so he could get paid to make people suffer.
Wonkette says “Allen’s son (the one named after this great American hero) receives a sort of combination regrettable senior picture plus county fair caricature treatment (so — you like “rock and roll,†Forrest? ‘Course you do!).â€
It’s simply a lie that Forrest Allen is named after Nathan Beford Forrest. Catch a clue folks, for one thing NBF is not the Civil War hero Virginians name their child after.
Attacking the Senator by misrepresenting a deceased President.
Jim Webb’s first campaign ad featured footage of Ronald Reagan implying a posthumous endorsement.
Webb’s campaign denied that was the intent of the add, however…
The Washington Post wrote that the “Webb ad serves almost as a posthumous endorsement from Reagan.”
“There’s one thing Ronald Reagan and I have in common,” [Mudcat] Saunders said. “We both endorse Jim Webb.” in The Roanoke Times.
Not content to misrepresent the deceased President, the Webb campaign rebuffs the request of his widow.
Lies about connections to the Council for Conservative Citizens.
The CCC doesn’t think there’s a connection.
“To be quite frank with you. . . we didn’t know him and he didn’t know us, and we had the picture run in our newspaper,” Baum replied. “Our folks have never supported him.”
News reporter Peggy Fox attacks the Senator with a question planted by the Webb campaign. The Senator releases this statement:
“Yesterday, I found it especially reprehensible that a reporter would impugn the attitudes of my mother, as Ms. Peggy Fox did in her first question at the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce Senate debate. My mother and father both taught me to abhor bigotry, and Ms. Fox’s suggestion to the contrary was deeply offensive.”
So, Peggy, where DID that question come from?
Any doubt that the Nutroots Webbsters weren’t the ones peddling for someone to ask the question about George Allen’s religious ancestry can be cast aside by this admission.
Not content to simply insult the Senator’s mother, Webb’s campaign treasurer promotes a story that attacks Allen’s grandfather who was imprisoned by the Nazis during WWII.
There is yet another possibility. It is reported that the Felix Lumbroso family was at that time Tunisia’s leading importer of wines and spirits, including the famed Cinzano label. As such, the firm could only have had dealings with its traditional suppliers in Vichy France and Fascist Italy. These Lumbrosos would have been – in the broadest sense of the term – “collaborators†with the Axis occupiers. Upon arriving in Tunisia, the triumphant Allies promptly (if briefly) incarcerated a number of Tunisian collaborators – mostly Italian – in the same labor camps that had weeks before been occupied by Jewish conscripts. Did this fate befall Felix Lumbroso? Is this the skeleton in the closet? There is absolutely no evidence for this, but the confusion of Allen’s statements opens the door to endless speculation. Raising Kaine (promoted by Webb’s campaign treasurer).
Nobody Expects the Religious Inquisition
Greg Pollowitz, at Sixers, notes that this is not a coincidence — it is the result of a concerted effort among Webb’s allies to question Allen’s religion for political gain:
There is some question if the Webb campaign is pushing the “George Allen is Jewish†angle to somehow win votes. Webb was accused of similar behavior during his primary against Harris Miller, who is Jewish.
Further, The Allen Blog tells us: Additionally, this story has gotten play in the past on both DailyKos and Lowell Feld ’s (Webb’s netroots guy) blog, RaisingKaine. The basic storyline is that Allen is denying his Jewish heritage as that would lower his appeal to Virginia voters.
More attacks from the anti-Semitic wing of the Webb campaign:Â

More of the same…
On The DailyKos, Republicans are referred to as “the racist crowd.â€
Also on The DailyKos – “the bubba voteâ€
“He may have been concerned that Jewish roots wouldn’t play well in parts of Virginia.†Dana Milbank

George Allen - DISHONEST, ELITIST & RACIST
Also on Raising Kaine:
Is George Allen Catering to Antisemitism?
George Felix Allen doesn’t want people to know that he is Jewish because some of the people he wants to appeal to, the people whose votes he most wants, the people he chooses to identify with politically, the people he agrees with, are antisemitic.
Mimi Schaeffer on Raising Kaine
Voters in Virginia should ensure Allen gets the psychological help he so desperately needs from a shrink by not reelecting him in the fall.
Lying about the campaign “Shake Up.â€
Webb’s paid bloggers create and peddle a blatant lie about a supposed “shake-up†at Allen HQ.
The Salon Hit Piece.Â
When you have nothing else to play, play the race card.Â
Webb’s Dirty Tricksters: Salon Â
Sadly, the Webb campaign is continuing their attemptÂ
to make this Virginia Senate race about lies and rumor-mongering, rather than about issues. In Salon today, an anti-tobacco and environmental activist claims Senator Allen “used “N-word†in college“.
So now, after the Senator has been in public service for nearly 25 years, suddenly these people who “knew him well†claim to have heard him utter the “N-word.â€
From The Allen Blog:
Shelton lied about the origin of the name “Wizardâ€:
Joe Gieck, 35-year UVA trainer: “I seem to recall that Ken Shelton got the ‘Wizard’ nickname for his pass catching ability and before George Allen came to the University of Virginia.â€
George Korte, UVA linebacker ‘70-’73: “Ken Shelton received his nickname because of his ability as a tight end to magically get open and catch the football not because he shared someone’s last name.â€
Charlie Hale, UVA center ‘70-’73: I have always known him by the nickname, ‘Wizard’. I have always thought the name came from his ability to catch passes … or his ability to somehow get open in the field. Personally I believe that he was a true ‘Wizard’ because he always had the ability to sneak out after curfew and never get caught.â€
Shelton lied about Allen using the “n-wordâ€:
Doug Jones, UVA defensive back ‘71-’74 and roomate of Ken Shelton: “I was on the University of Virginia football team with George Allen for the 1972 and 1973 seasons. During that time I never heard George Allen use any racially disparaging word nor did I ever witness or hear about him acting in a racially insensitive manner.â€
George Korte, UVA linebacker ‘70-’73: “Contrary to Ken Shelton, I have kept up with George Allen the past thirty-five years. During this time, I have never known or heard him use racial epithets to describe blacks either in public or private. … George Allen did not use racial epithets or demonstrate racist attitudes towards blacks in the early 1970s.
Charlie Hale, UVA center ‘70-’73: ““During the 34 years I have known George Allen I have never heard him use racial slurs or derogatory language to describe a person or group of persons.â€
Shelton lied about Allen’s reasons for coming to UVA:
Â
George Korte, UVA linebacker ‘70-’73: “George came to University of Virginia because his father became the head coach of the Washington Redskins.â€
Charlie Hale, UVA center ‘70-’73: “The reason that Senator Allen came to Virginia to play football from UCLA was the fact that he was very close to his father, loved professional football and wanted to be near his family who would be living in Leesburg, Virginia.â€
Why is it that they hate George Allen so?
We suspect, we know why:
Kathleen Parker said on April 28, 2006: Allen, indeed, is a favorite among Republican Party players. He’s also the one Democrats worry about most, according to an insider who told me: “The one Hillary’s worried about is George Allen.”…Thus, before millions of Americans are able to match Allen’s name with his face, they’ll likely be able to link his name to the label - racist. The fact that the mudslinging has begun so early - while Allen is busy running for re-election to the Senate - confirms how seriously opponents take his presidential candidacy.
Why is it that Jim Webb hasn’t shown some backbone and some decency and called for a halt to these false, race-baiting, hate-filled attacks?
It’s because they have nothing else but sour notes. Make no mistake about it folks, these attacks are scurrilous lies and they’re all orchestrated by the Democrats party of hate, lies and distortions.
When the Democrats run on the issues, they lose.
And they know that.
And for what it’s worth, I don’t believe Doug Thompson OR Larry Sabato.Â

UPDATE: Just when you thought Webb’s campaign couldn’t go any lower. H/T to The Mason Conservative for pointing out the NLS link to this video.
UPDATE, UPDATE:Â Just so we know who we’re dealing with Doug Thompson is the “contract field consultant” who wrote this:
“The American flag does not fly outside our home today. It usually does on July 4 but not this Fourth of July because I can’t bring myself to celebrate an independence that isn’t or recognize a country that no longer stands for freedom. In fact, I may start a bonfire in our front yard and burn every American flag we own…”
And this:
And they start to think that, when compared to the fanatics who control the government of this country, maybe Saddam Hussein wasn’t all that bad.
I’m calling the RNC. If we paid this guy, I want my money back.
